A very special and intense conference for educators like us who are continually searching for ways to engage and empower our students. The two day conference started with a reception on Thursday evening, welcoming the attendees and introducing us to the IREX/USDOE offcials. While mingling with my fellow educators and getting introduced to the Senegal cohort, I searched in vain for my roomie, Susan! Eventually I resigned to the fact that I will have to wait to find out who she is - later that night, in the room itself. Thankfully, Susan was wonderful company, and we stayed up chatting about things moms and teachers can talk about! Friday and Saturday were spent in and out of seminars, focusing on the why's and how's of global education. We had an opportunity to share our lesson plans and get meaningful feedback from our peers. Thankfully I have Principal buy-in to explore global opportunities for our students. He even traveled with me to show his support. From exploring free world travel opportunities for students to gathering free resources for the school, Mr. Edwards and I spent Friday afternoon networking. The food was simply delicious - and I had to talk myself out of taking third helpings. By the time Saturday afternoon rolled in, I was exhausted but still wanting more!!! Nothing like a room full of passionate and dynamic educators, sharing our vision and learning from each other!!! Next stop: Senegal!!! SENEGAL: THE JOURNEY BEGINS |
